And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:12-13)

Where is God? After Elijah killed the prophets, Jezebel sent him a death threat. Not knowing what he should do next, Elijah, in fear for his life, runs away to the mountains to hide in a cave.

There are times in my life when I have some big fears that make me want to run away and hide. A lot of us might have thought of doing this for the 2020 calendar year. It has been a crazy year, and makes one wonder where God is. As Elijah learned, it was in “a low whisper” that God spoke and reassured Elijah of His plan. Often we expect to hear or see God and His work in big ways, but as we know God works in his own ways and time.

This past summer, I shared about how God is still working in new ways in a “low whisper” as we await the day volunteer missionaries can return to the communities we serve. Normally I would be traveling to visit communities and pray with people. I had hoped to provide a Romans Bible study workshop as well as a parenting workshop in a few communities. But those workshops are on hold for now.  I’m looking forward to providing a puppet making workshop in November, and teams will be putting together Christmas boxes for the kids in their communities.

One of my other duties during the fall is to share with you about summer and ongoing ministry to my B.C. communities. Since I couldn’t travel this summer (and am still unable to) and many churches remain closed, I’m in the process of putting a video together. This video will highlight some of my past work and some of the new ways we did ministry virtually. Details regarding the upcoming plans with the puppet workshop and Christmas boxes will also be provided. This video will be available on the LAMP YouTube channel, and I hope to provide a link soon for your viewing.

Do you struggle to know where God is in this crazy world? Pray that God will give you ears to hear the “sound of a low whisper”. Seek God in the Scriptures, where He reveals Himself to us. Pray that the Holy Spirit provides comfort, peace, and strength so that the fears of life don’t overwhelm us.

I ask for your prayers that I can minister effectively from a distance and provide the encouragement needed by our northern communities as they struggle with even greater isolation and resulting challenges amidst the fears they face. If you have any prayer requests, it is my privilege to pray with you for your family and friends. I pray that you are encouraged knowing that God is at work.

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
